Alfa Romeo Sport Cars Autodelta Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

The Performance Car Show that will take place in Birmingham, UK, 14-17 January 2010, Autodelta will unveil the world’s first tuned Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. Alfa Romeo’s awesome Alfa 8C Competizione supercar has scooped the award for Best Design of the Year in Auto Express’s 2008 New Car Honours.

The announcement came after more than 4000 Auto Express readers voted in the category, putting the Italian 4.7 V8 head and shoulders above its rivals. Auto Express’s judging panel agreed with their verdict.

Editor of Auto Express, David Johns, said: “Choosing the best designed cars of the year is never easy, so we turned to the experts for help – Auto Express readers. Only one car was ever going to win – Alfa Romeo’s Sport Cars 8C Competizione simply blew the opposition away.”

The engine develops 444 hp at its plant stock and Autodelta incarnation promises to 17 more to offer. Technical refinements to the chassis of the car and the suspension was also promised, but no further details were released by the company.

Few details are known at this point, but a remapped ECU should squeeze out a modest 17 horsepower boost from the stock 444-hp, 4.7-liter Ferrari-developed V8. Alfa Romeo Sport Cars Autodelta Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione is also working on fine-tuning the chassis, taking their 8C around some of the finest tracks in Europe to get it just right.

2011 Ford Fiesta Review

When I wrote the first drive impressions of the 2011 Ford Fiesta and promised a full review soon, I had no idea that TireKicker would be taking an unexpected two week vacation...but we did and now we're back and item one has to be to fill in the blanks left by the early look at this very significant car for Ford.

The basic first impressions (a quantum leap forward for American small cars, a serious threat to future Focus sales until we get the Euro-spec model of the Fiesta's bigger brother) all hold true.

But I see I used the word "roomy". I was so eager to get behind the wheel that I neglected to sit in the back seat. After I posted the first drive, my 5 foot 11 son sat back there...or tried to. It wasn't pleasant. And it wasn't much better for my 5 foot 4 daughter. That large trunk that I mentioned came at the expense of rear seat legroom. And while none of the cars in this class (Toyota Yaris, Nissan Versa, Honda Fit, Chevy Aveo) are limos, some of them...especially the Yaris and Versa...are better.

Coincidentally, I had a Yaris sedan the same week, and was able to drive them back-to-back. While the Fiesta dazzled with its newness, edginess and content, the Yaris had more rear and front-seat comfort, a quieter cabin and a smoother ride. And it was a few hundred dollars cheaper, too...staying under $19,000 ( The Yaris had the Sport package, a $3500 option that adds alloy wheels, spoilers, foglamps, leather trimming, power everything and an upgraded audio system) while the as-tested price of the Fiesta hit $19,600 (base for the SEL sedan is $16,320).

Gas mileage was a wash....the Yaris delivering 32 miles per gallon in an even split of urban street and freeway driving, the Fiesta 31.

Honestly, both the Fiesta and the Yaris are way out of the target zone when their stickers get that close to $20K. You can get Corollas, Sentras and Civics (not to mention the 2011 VW Jetta) for that kind of money. The base Yaris sedan starts at $13,365...the base Fiesta at $13,320. That's where the battle in entry-level sedans is likely to be fought.

But will the sedans be the main focus? The Fiesta that makes the biggest splash visually is the five-door hatchback...and the base price for that is $15,120...a big step up, especially when you consider the Yaris 5-door hatch starts at $12,905 (lower than the Yaris sedan price).

The Fiesta leads the class in style...leaving the frumpy Yaris in the dust both in terms of exterior and interior. But these are entry-level vehicles. And while Europeans have a keen understanding of the term "premium compact", the Fiesta's going to have to make a value argument to drivers from the land of Wal-Mart. That could turn out to be a very tall order.

Anyone who knows Barry White knows he loves drag racing. He started out when he was around 8 years old helping his Dad and uncles work on their race cars in the garage, and playing in the pits at Lions Drag Strip. By the time he got his driver's license, he had spent more time at the drag strip than anywhere else! He and his brother Denny partnered on various cars throughout the years, with Barry wrenching and Denny driving. In the early 80's Denny moved to Washington, the local drag strip was closed and work and family life dictated a change to other pursuits. But that love of racing was always there. After years of building a successful business in the hot rod/muscle car industry, Barry was given the opportunity to go racing again. One of his customers owned a nice little ’36 So he brought it to Barry's Speed Shop for the re-do and by the time it was finished had a bad ass hot rod.
The unfortunate part was he had just picked it up and had barely 700 miles on it when he was rear ended and the car was totaled. That was a sad day when that car came back to the shop on a rollback, so soon after doing a burn out down the street when it left! The customer retained
the car after the total, but couldn't really do anything with it, so he offered it to Barry to do 'what ever' with it. Ding..light bulb went of..let’s make a race car! Chevy 2 door sedan that he wanted "freshened up".
So it became a shop project with the guys working on it when they could, straightening the frame, doing body work, adding a roll cage, and using parts from around the shop to put it together. When Barry's Speed Shop got the opportunity to do a TV show, the little race car got a chance to run down the drag strip with a '64 Nova gasser! After that, the car was raced a couple of times, then parked while business continued on. But the bug bit again, and this time Barry and his shop
foreman, Adam, decided to do it right.
They had attended a PSCA race at Fontana (California Speedway) and thought it would be a great family thing to be able to go to the races and just have fun. So at first it was small changes, pull the motor and trans, clean everything, make sure it was safe, etc. But it turned into completely
changing the front end, taking the body off, grinding and painting the chassis, removing and replacing the roll cage, re-doing the interior and replacing the trans, front suspension, and converter. It's now ready for it's 3rd incarnation as a really bad ass, Barry's Speed Shop worthy drag race car!
Pasar sedan memang kecil di tanah air, dan tentunya sudah ada beberapa merek mapan yang eksis. Karena itulah, Chevrolet Cruze dihadirkan dengan mengusung fitur-fitur yang membuat kita bakal melirik. Apa sajakah?
Tidak perlu lagi membicarakan desain tampilannya, sekali melihat semua pasti mengetahui inilah sedan khas pabrikan Amerika, apalagi dengan emblem logo ‘dasi kupu-kupu’ Chevrolet yang baru pada grill depannya.
Presiden Amerika Barack Obama pun sampai menjulukinya sebagai ‘The Car of the Future’ atau mobil masa depan. Apa Obama salah ya? Tertukar dengan Chevy Volt yang memang mobil listrik? Oh ternyata tidak, Obama pun membubuhkan tanda tangan dan menuliskan “The Car of The Future” di bodi Cruze.

MORE GRINDHOUSE
Below, Nick Dawson tells us about 11 new Grindhouse clips online. While he was posting that, I was reading some of the early word on the film.

Jeffrey Wells is mixed on the Rodriguez, but he really digs the Tarantino:

Take away the car-chase finale and the Tarantino flick is almost all sublime, groovy-chick dialogue. This is Tarantino amblin' country, all right -- a place where very cool people (i.e., '70s "street" archetypes) talk and talk and say it just right while sipping a Corona or smoking a Red Apple cigarette or eating a Big Kahuna burger. And yet Death Proof is not, to put it mildly, concerned with notions of unity. It's a scattershot thing that's basically two short films in one. Two separate moods or tones and two separate female ensembles linked by Kurt Russell's "Stuntman Mike" character.
